Udunuwara Manikkawa Sri Nigrodharama Maha Viharaya

Udunuwara Sri Nigrodharamaya was established in 1973 by Reverent Kolabisse Buddhaghosha Disapalaka Thero. Without considering any religion, race, or caste, this institution has assisted the rural residents of this region. It has performed a lot of service over the past 50 years to further cultural, social, and religious goals. Reverend Kolabisse Bhagindawanse Thero [BA,M.ED], the viharadipathithero, is currently providing this society with excellent service. Additionally, it is promised that this temple would house the biggest statue of Lord Buddha in all of Asia.

To get to this temple, there are three trails. The Colombo-Kandy Road comes first. The distance from Kadugannawa Dosen Tower is five kilometers. The Pilimatalawa - Paranapattiya road comes next. The distance from Pilimatalawa to Manikkawa is six kilometers. The Gampola - Kadugannawa Road is the next. The distance to this temple from Gampola is five kilometers.

 


 

Our programmes

Annual procession to homage sacred relic - We hold this event every year on the day following Vesak full moon poya day in order to demonstrate the individuality of our culture. We successfully carried out our 11th procession last year. The necessary preparations are being made for this year's upcoming parade.

Doing some poojas in the chamber of the sacred relic. - All the Buddhists in this area perform their poojas in this temple daily at 5:00 p.m.

Participating in Sil and meditation classes - We perform sill and meditation sessions, as well as bodhi poojas with everyone, once a month on each poya day.

Buddhagosha Educational and Social Foundation. - This foundation engages in different meritorious deeds with the contribution of funds.

Yearly distribution of nourishment packs to expectant women.

Assisting those affected by natural calamities

Organizing health clinics and blood donation camps.

Encouraging the self-employees.

Building and maintaining roads.

Conducting a nursery school.

Carrying on cultural and educational programmes.

Carrying out deeds of merit in Rev. Buddhagosha Thero's honor.

Conducting the Buddhagosha Dhamma school. - There are more than 300 Buddhist students including 15 teachers.

Katina Pinkam - Since 1973, we have been doing katinapinkam. There were fifty katinapinkams until this moment.

Building of Asia's largest standing statue of the Buddha. - The largest standing statue of the Buddha is being built in our temple. Without concern to any different religious beliefs, we had your excellent contribution. By 2024, we would like to have it finished with your meritorious contribution. All Buddhists around the world will greatly benefit from it. It will be a great endowment for whole Buddhists in the world. Your hope your valuable meritorious contribution.
